About Chinar on the Island

Chinar on the Island was founded in 2004 by Igor Khanuk, Rufat Yusupov, and Solomon Berkovitch; as a space that would bring premium Russian cuisine to Staten Island and surrounding areas. Just a short drive from New York City, Chinar on the Island is close enough for city dwellers to drive to for an impromptu night out, but also far enough away for you to make a special occasion of it.

The Restaurant

This popular Russian restaurant was named after the Middle Eastern Chinar Tree; a name that holds many traditional stories and romantic anecdotes with it. It’s said that lovers meet under the Chinar tree and Hippocrates was rumored to have taught his classes underneath one.

Chinar on the Island brings this traditional, mystical ambience to the restaurant with an idyllic setting and luxurious decor, not unlike a typical courtyard found in the Mediterranean. A bubbling fountain creates the centre piece with various booths surrounding the main area, creating small, private spots for those romantic nights out. Walking through the door, guests will feel as though they’ve found a place that’s completely unique; with the scent and taste of the authentic Russian cuisine, you might also forget what continent you’re on.

The scene is set with the perfect lighting and mood music. Guests who choose to dine at Chinar on the Island on a Saturday night are in for an exotic display of traditional belly dance that opens up the dance floor for everyone to enjoy. Make sure to wear your dancing shoes and prepare to dance on well into the night as you learn how to party, Russian style.

The Food

Guests of Chinar on the Island can expect a wide variety of different flavors from the Banquette Menu or the A La Carte Menu. A full range of appetizers, both hot and cold, salads, mains, juicy meats, fresh fish, pilafs and delectable desserts are available. The recommended way to savor all the different varieties is to order for the table and let everyone have a taste of each dish. Guests can enjoy their meals while sipping on any arrangement of drinks, such as a chilled white wine or a warm red from the extensive and reasonably priced wine collection.

Restuarant Hours:

Monday thru Thursday 11:30am to 9:00pm
Friday, Saturday and Sunday 11:00am to 12:00am

We are open 7 days a week, but Fridays, Saturday and Sundays we are open later, especially when the dance floor is hot and everyone’s enjoying themselves.
